The Hunt
The Hunt is a required Phantom Blade Zero boss fought twice: on the wagon after the prologue, then in two phases at the Great Waterfall in Weeping Creek Valley before Crimson Forest. Parry blue flashes, dodge red ones and his hook, and in the rematch use the Scarlet Wraithblade and Jagged Steel. He drops the Hunter's Chain Sickle.
The Hunt is fought twice, first on the wagon after the prologue, then at the Great Waterfall before Crimson Forest, and the way through both is to parry his blue flashes, dodge his red ones and punish him when he closes in. The second fight drops the Hunter's Chain Sickle, and 55.8% of Steam players had won it by Oct 31, 2026. His story is on Characters.

| Rewards | Hunter's Chain Sickle and 20,000 Remnant Dust, from the second fight only |
The wagon fight
You do not have to win this one. It ends when his health reaches about half: a cutscene plays, he knocks Soul off the cart, and no reward follows.
- He opens with five chain attacks that end in a parryable hit. Parry it, then press the prompt for a Ghoststep and a large chunk of health.
- When he launches into the air, expect four blockable chain swings, a short lunge and another parryable hit.
- AllThings.how's rule is "Parry blue and dodge red". Blocking drains Sha-Chi, so block once and counterattack rather than holding it.
- His leap from the horse onto the cart is the time to punish him with a Sha-Chi combo.
The Great Waterfall: Hunter of the Order
Start from the Great Waterfall bell, follow the south bank and wade west across the pool until a cutscene begins the fight. A death returns you to that bell with full health and heals.
- Long chain lash: it reaches about 15 m, so sidestep out of its line instead of backing away.
- Hook grab: dodge late, as the chain nears you. A dodge right after the throw fails, and a hit costs about 200 to 230 HP on Pathbreaker, so save a heal for after it.
- Five-hit slash combo: hold block or step back, then parry the heavy last hit to stagger him.
- Side jumps: two jumps lead into a lunge with a double slash and a parryable attack.
- Water tornado: three area slashes raise it, and he lunges after a short delay. Parry that lunge on the blue glint, and heal before dodging the tornado if your health is low.
When Sha-Chi runs low, switch weapons to refill it.
The Great Waterfall: Sixfold Scythe
Fextralife's wiki calls this phase significantly harder, with longer combos and quicker attacks. A death here returns you to this phase, not to the first. PCGamesN notes that he is fast and uses the whole arena: stay close, since his range covers about half of it.
- Sonic Boom and Overhead Slash: block the wind projectiles, and parry the long overhead chain slash that follows them.
- Sickle Whips: block, then parry on the blue flash to interrupt him and dash in.
- Sickle Combo: dodge on the red flash, then block the follow-ups and strike back.
- Fissure: a ground slam and upward slash open a straight line. Step to either side.
- Chain Rain: he vanishes, purple rifts rain chains, and he lunges out of a rift in front of you.
- Airborne finisher: four ranged attacks and five chain slashes lead to a leap and a quick spin. Parry just before the spin ends.
What to bring
- The Scarlet Wraithblade drains his Sha-Chi and Jagged Steel adds bleed. Use Rampage when he is staggered (Game8).
- Bring the Dread Axe, the Focus Pill, Battle Wraps, Hunter's Insight and Token of Pursuit, all from Weeping Creek Valley.
- Struggling on a high difficulty? On Wayfarer his dash-in hits deal about 30 HP instead of 43, his health stays the same, and the difficulty can be changed at any time. See Difficulty Modes.
Frequently asked questions
How many times do you fight The Hunt? Twice in the required story, on the wagon and at the Great Waterfall, where the second fight has two phases.
Can you beat The Hunt on the wagon? No. The fight ends in a cutscene once his health falls to about half, and it gives no reward.
What does The Hunt drop? The Hunter's Chain Sickle and 20,000 Remnant Dust, from the second fight; the first gives nothing. The sickle is a Phantom Edge that can grapple onto anchor points; see Phantom Edges.
How much health does The Hunt have? 8,000 on the wagon and 18,720 in the first phase of the rematch on Pathbreaker and Wayfarer, by AllThings.how's count. No published figure covers the second phase yet.
Do you restart the whole fight if you die in phase 2? No. Fextralife's wiki says a death in the Sixfold Scythe phase returns you to that phase.
How do you stop The Hunt's hook grab? Dodge late, as the chain reaches you; a dodge made right after the throw fails.

CharactersThe main character of Phantom Blade Zero is Soul, once the Order's most feared blade, framed for his leader's murder and left with 66 days to live; the stage actor Yucheng gave him his likeness and motion capture. Around him are his father Mó Yuan (Donnie Yen), his blood brother Zuo Shang, Mu Xiaokui, the Flesh Sculptor and The Hunt. [Roger Craig Smith voices Soul in English](https://game8.co/articles/latest/phantom-blade-zero-casts-sonic-va-roger-craig-smith-as-protagonist-soul), replacing Jay Maksenuk, and Donnie Yen recorded Mó Yuan's lines, Game8 reports; S-Game had not published a full cast by Oct 31, 2026.
- Hua, Deadly BetrothedHua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional Phantom Blade Zero boss in the Flesh Lily Fields under the Valley Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. Bleed does not work on her, so fight defensively with the Sanguine Twin and Dread Axe, parry her blade, and dodge her red-flash grab and lilies. She drops the Scarlet Wraithblade.
-
Difficulty ModesPhantom Blade Zero has four difficulty modes: Wayfarer (the easiest, "intuitive and cinematic"), Pathbreaker (the standard mode), Hellwalker (adaptive bosses with "pure fighting game mechanics") and 66 Days, which unlocks for a second playthrough and ends the run for good if Soul's 66 days run out. Every trophy can be earned on the first three, and S-Game calls the game neither a Soulslike nor a hack-and-slash.
-
Phantom EdgesPhantom Edges are Soul's secondary weapons in Phantom Blade Zero: he carries two alongside his two primary weapons, fires them from a limited resource that refills at checkpoints, and uses them for slow, powerful attacks with super armor and to open new paths. S-Game's State of Play counts 25 of them; Steam says more than 20. - Peng MengPeng Meng the Axemaster is Phantom Blade Zero's required boss of Weeping Creek Valley in Chapter 2. Stay close, block and parry, use Jagged Steel's bleed, and dodge his grab after the Battle Cry. He drops the Dread Axe.
- The Gold-Masked OneThe Gold-Masked One is an optional early Phantom Blade Zero boss, fought first through the cave across the bridge at Long Pillar Overlook in Weeping Creek Valley, then at the Mirrorwood Long Pillar in Crimson Forest. Game8 ranks him the hardest boss and advises coming back with the Outlaw Warblade.
