Hua, Deadly Betrothed
Hua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional Phantom Blade Zero boss in the Flesh Lily Fields under the Valley Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. Bleed does not work on her, so fight defensively with the Sanguine Twin and Dread Axe, parry her blade, and dodge her red-flash grab and lilies. She drops the Scarlet Wraithblade.
Hua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional boss reached by sliding down a hole north of the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor bell in Weeping Creek Valley, and she falls to patient, defensive play with the Sanguine Twin and Dread Axe. Game8 calls her perhaps the hardest boss of the early chapters. She drops the Scarlet Wraithblade, and 48.7% of Steam players had beaten her by Oct 31, 2026.

How to reach her
From the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor bell, go north and around the tower to the hole in the ground (Game8). GamerFuzion, citing PowerPyx, describes the same trip as sliding down the wooden bridge behind the bell, heading left and following the Flesh Lily Fields to her shrine. The Flesh Lily Fields bell works only after you win, so a retry means the walk from the tower.
Should you fight her early?
You can come back. Maxroll, which tested the fight on Hellwalker, suggests that if she is too much you finish The Hunt at the end of the valley and return with better gear. Do not leave her for too long: GamerFuzion passes on a report, which it did not test, that she must fall before you complete the Village of Lu for the perfect ending. See Missables and Endings.
The Flesh Lily near her shrine is what Yu'er asks for to cure her father; see Side Quests.
How to beat her
- Do not press attacks: her quick grab catches you mid-combo, and she counter-swings if you do not pause. Keep to two or three hits, and dodge, block and parry until her Sha-Chi is gone.
- Do not build around Jagged Steel. Its bleed "Has no effect on Puppets".
- Level the Sanguine Twin and Dread Axe to 5 for their bonus skills. Maxroll finds the fight much easier with Sanguine at level 5, and upgrade materials are sold in the shop.
- Land a charged Dread Axe hit in her downtime to stagger her, never mid-attack, when she may teleport or gain super armor.
- Bring the Focus Pill, Battle Wraps, Hunter's Insight and Token of Pursuit.
Her attacks
- Red-flash grab: it cannot be parried. AllThings.how says to wait about 1 second after the flash, then dodge; if it lands, two cuts follow at about 300 HP each on Pathbreaker.
- Drifting white lilies: Maxroll calls this grab setup "by far her most dangerous move". She teleports and summons five lilies that track you. Strafe and dodge sideways; the grab comes roughly 1.7 to 2.3 seconds after they appear.
- Red lily patches: they drain Sha-Chi and then erupt for about 300 HP. Step off them. When a ring of lilies collapses on one point, leave the ring.
- Black flash, gray screen: color drains from the world before a big overhead chop. Dodge it, since blocking costs a great deal of Sha-Chi.
- Sweeps and overhead chops: parry for Sha-Chi damage. Many sweeps hit twice, so parry both or hold block after the first.
- Blue flash: block it for a parry-counter that does heavy Sha-Chi damage and opens a window.
- Teleport strike: she holds a pose and blinks to you. Turn off lock-on after her spinning backstep and move, as flowers converge on where she stood.
She has no formal phases, but she uses the red-flash grab and gray-screen finisher more often as her health falls. Her big hits drop from about 300 HP to about 210 HP on Wayfarer; see Difficulty Modes.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Hua in Phantom Blade Zero? Under the Valley Sha-Chi Tower, through a hole in the ground north of the 1st Floor bell, in the Flesh Lily Fields. She is not marked on the map.
What does Hua drop? The Scarlet Wraithblade, which also serves against The Hunt, with 9,000 Remnant Dust. The Flesh Lily for Yu'er's quest is around her shrine.
Is Hua optional? Yes, but PCGamesN calls her "a must-beat" for the Scarlet Wraithblade, one of the best weapons of the game's first half by its reckoning.
Does bleed work on Hua? No. She is a Puppet, so Jagged Steel's bleed does nothing to her.
How do you dodge Hua's grab? Wait about a second after the red flash, then dodge. It cannot be parried, and pressing attacks is how it catches you.
How much health does Hua have? 21,060 HP on Pathbreaker, by AllThings.how's count.

MissablesPhantom Blade Zero's biggest point of no return is beating Bai Chilian in Chapter 4, which turns the Outpost and Thieves' Camp people into enemies. Entering Mirage Estate closes the True Ending, and leaving Quick Hand Zhang in his cage loses his shop and quests.
-
EndingsPowerPyx's guide finds two endings in Phantom Blade Zero, Normal and True, against the eight director Soulframe Liang promised before launch. The True Ending needs every purple-icon quest done, ten of them before you enter Mirage Estate, and leads to a hidden last boss after Meng Hua.
- Side QuestsPhantom Blade Zero's side quests are called Tales; PowerPyx counts 30. Most reward a weapon or accessory, purple-icon quests decide the True Ending, and several fail when the story moves on.
-
Difficulty ModesPhantom Blade Zero has four difficulty modes: Wayfarer (the easiest, "intuitive and cinematic"), Pathbreaker (the standard mode), Hellwalker (adaptive bosses with "pure fighting game mechanics") and 66 Days, which unlocks for a second playthrough and ends the run for good if Soul's 66 days run out. Every trophy can be earned on the first three, and S-Game calls the game neither a Soulslike nor a hack-and-slash.
- The HuntThe Hunt is a required Phantom Blade Zero boss fought twice: on the wagon after the prologue, then in two phases at the Great Waterfall in Weeping Creek Valley before Crimson Forest. Parry blue flashes, dodge red ones and his hook, and in the rematch use the Scarlet Wraithblade and Jagged Steel. He drops the Hunter's Chain Sickle.
- Peng MengPeng Meng the Axemaster is Phantom Blade Zero's required boss of Weeping Creek Valley in Chapter 2. Stay close, block and parry, use Jagged Steel's bleed, and dodge his grab after the Battle Cry. He drops the Dread Axe.
