How the story moves
The Steam achievements mark the road by name, so they work as a checklist: escape the pursuers on the main road, pass through the Outpost, exit the cave behind the waterfall, unravel the illusion in Mirrorwood, leave Village of Lu for Pangzhen, visit the Order's Tavern, solve the Serpent Head Lock in the Green Serpent House, investigate the Training Grounds, reach the Realm of Mirage, cleave through the Heart of the Lake, pass through Mirage Estate, then step into the snow and head for the cliff. On Oct 31, 2026, 90.9% of Steam players had the first and 8.3% had reached the road to Pangzhen.
Mirage Estate opens through The Four Serpent Houses: take a part from each of the White, Black and Red Serpent Houses and place them in the door at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen (GosuGamers). Do the required side quests first (Endings).
Tips for every chapter
- Talk to everyone. Some quests start only from a dialogue option, Game8 notes; Yu'er's "ask how to save her father" starts Flesh Lily.
- Go back with each new Phantom Edge. The Dread Axe and Hunter's Chain Sickle open routes in earlier regions (Phantom Edges).
- Finish a region before leaving it, and keep a manual save at its start and end, PowerPyx advises; some Tales fail when the story moves on (Side Quests).
- Use bells to save, upgrade, learn skills and shop (Game8).

MissablesPhantom Blade Zero's biggest point of no return is beating Bai Chilian in Chapter 4, which turns the Outpost and Thieves' Camp people into enemies. Entering Mirage Estate closes the True Ending, and leaving Quick Hand Zhang in his cage loses his shop and quests.
-
EndingsPowerPyx's guide finds two endings in Phantom Blade Zero, Normal and True, against the eight director Soulframe Liang promised before launch. The True Ending needs every purple-icon quest done, ten of them before you enter Mirage Estate, and leads to a hidden last boss after Meng Hua.

How Long to BeatPhantom Blade Zero's main story takes about 20 to 30 hours, director Soulframe Liang said in Dec 2025, and a full playthrough takes "around 25 to 30 hours" for an experienced player who does not get stuck on bosses (Oct 2026). One reviewer took about 40 hours. The game has 11 chapters, two documented endings, a New Game Plus with no new story, and a Platinum trophy that can be earned in one run.

Phantom EdgesPhantom Edges are Soul's secondary weapons in Phantom Blade Zero: he carries two alongside his two primary weapons, fires them from a limited resource that refills at checkpoints, and uses them for slow, powerful attacks with super armor and to open new paths. S-Game's State of Play counts 25 of them; Steam says more than 20. - Side QuestsPhantom Blade Zero's side quests are called Tales; PowerPyx counts 30. Most reward a weapon or accessory, purple-icon quests decide the True Ending, and several fail when the story moves on.
